Just heard back from Baker. They never did make a fuel pump to fit the sea pump. :(

Wish they did, I know which pump i would have bought.

1 month after placing the order, I finally got the KE fuel pump upgrade. To be fair, I had ordered a cooling hose that needed to be ordered from Merc, Then it was Christmas and New Years and everyone closes up until the new year.

Would still like to find one of those nice billet fuel pumps that mounted to the sea pump.

Here's the latest on this if anyone actually cares.

After purchasing all sorts of fittings, and the KE fuel pump, and reading how 90* bends on the suction side of the fuel pump are bad, etc.., this is my conclusion.

If you're ever in my situation, just buy a block mounted baker fuel pump (if you have the block provision for it) and a gen IV sea pump and mount. It's going to be easier and better in the end.

After trying to find a quality sea pump mounted fuel pump, the only option is the Keith Eickert. Some posts I read said guys had also swapped Holley pumps onto the OEM base like the KE. Old ads for the KE upgrade had it listed as having a -10 AN inlet and an -8AN outlet. The ones being sold now only have -8 AN fittings on both. This is disappointing for me as I will elaborate in a bit.

The Merc gen V sea pump/fuel pump combo has a common problem because of it's design. With the fuel pump mounted on top, there is a tendency for fuel to seep past the diaphragm somehow and fill up in the oil reservoir below. This has 2 major problems. One is the gear lube gets diluted and can lead to bearing failure. The other is the the fuel attacks the oil seals on the pump. The fluid level rises due to the gas filling up and eventually leaks out of the seals. It really was a silly set up, but it was Merc's work around when GM stopped putting the fuel pump embossment on the engine block. It has been discussed here in great detail if you do a search.

So I personally feel doing away with this combo would be a much better choice as you have a dedicated performance fuel pump. And a dedicated sea water pump that isn't compromised by fuel trashing the seals and bearings. I believe there is a slight modification you may have to do. I read the gen 4 pulley doesn't align perfectly. You may need to shim the pump somehow to get it in line with the rest of the engine pulleys.

So now I'm at the point of running my fuel lines and have changed fittings and clocking the fuel pump multiple times trying to make it as good as possible. I have the pick up tube from Eddie Young. It's a thin walled SS tube welded to a SS -10 AN 90* adapter. It's then going to the Hardin water separator through a Teague SS -10 AN 90* fitting and SS -10 AN straight adapter. I want to keep the -10 fitting coming out of the separator and feed the fuel pump, but this is where the KE fuel pump now only uses the -8 AN fitting. Not the -10 like the old ads used to list it as.

This is a problem for me because I have to use a 90* adapter from the water separator to supply the fuel pump. After doing some reading, it's recommended to not use any 90* fittings BEFORE the fuel pump to prevent restrictions. But if you must, try to use the next size larger hose to lessen the effects.

This is the point I'm at now. Where can I get the old -10 AN fitting for the KE fuel pump?

And i just recently ran across a thread staing there was a procedure to swapping the KE pump onto the Merc base. I never saw this procedure. Most guys state it's just a simple unscrew 6 screws and swap the new with the old. You can also "clock" the fuel pump in order to clean up the hose routing.

Does anyone know what procedure needs to be done when swapping the sea pump mounted fuel pump onto the OEM base? Thanks

Found these instructions for ke fuel pump base on sea water pump mount

Btw: i don’t agree with red loctite. Dab of blue should be fine. That’s just my opinion.

Thanks for posting that SB.

Don't have the room between 2 -10 AN fittings going from water separator to the fuel pump. So -10 AN to the separator, and -8 AN from the separator to the fuel pump. Then -8 AN from the fuel pump to the carb. Done!!!! Parts are ordered and on their way. :signs069:

Don't see much difference between the Keith Eickert fuel pump upgrade VS. the stock merc pump. Only difference is the OEM 1/4" NPT inlet/outlet and KE has 3/8" NPT.

Fuel system I ended up with. I know 90* bends are frowned upon, but I had no choice. I cannot spin the fuel filter head 90* because it would interfere with my battery. I'm hoping being AN 10 from tank to separator and AN 8 from separator to carb "T" helps a little.
