Default Fuel Tank And Vent System Design

Ethanol and larger engines have caused me to wonder if the typical fuel system is modern. While I don't understand Ethanol phase separation, I'm suspicious free access to air is an influence. Therefore, should the vent cap and hose route through a water separator/P trap ? Then the question of creating fuel tank negative pressure as well as fueling blow back......Comments ?
