Default Merc Zero Effort noise

I've just installed a set of Merc Zero Effort throttles in my Formula. My question is the throttle makes a loud ratching noise, is this normal? It seems like this is supposed to be that way. Is this adjustable? This is my first boat with this type of shifter.

Some shifters have the clicking and some don't. I think you can remove the detent ball that makes it click.
