Thru hull exhaust noise abatement / muffler
Any suggestions or comments on boat exhaust systems? I'm looking at both 496HO and 525 equipped newer 33 & 35 Fountains with thru hull only. What exhaust system will be the quietest at idle yet not impact performance at WOT? I heard from a dealer that some switchable systems (ie captain's call) may be responsible for water inversion issues. Thanks.

I was paranoid when I first got my boat with twin 496HO's. I'd seen numerous guys getting tested by the noise police. Here in MN, we have a very low 84dB limit. But, what I've learned is that there is an "obnoxious" limit that will draw their attention. Lots of boats that are over the legal limit, but under the obnoxious limit, will be overlooked. Last year, I was actually running a combination of HPI mufflers and Gibson turn-downs. My boat was friggin' quiet. Too quiet! This year, I went out with just the turn-downs and the sound was perfect. I should still be overlooked. The turn-downs are also much quieter at speed because they direct the noise into the water.

Baffles
I have a some what related question? I buddie of mine has a Donzi 25zx whith thru hull. he is wanting to remove the baffles? Is there any HP gain by doing this and if there is, is it worth it? also will it be to loud as it is above the water line?
