Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions for making and installing wood floors in a boat? My Chris Craft Stingers carpet is in horrible shape, and I would like to install a wood floor in both the cockpit and the cabin. This boat will never be the fastest, but I love the looks and the amenities, and would like to improve upon them. I love the look of the Playboy Cigarette floors and would like to do something similar. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I redid the ski locker in my boat with a piece of teak and holly plywood. Its a 1/4" thick and comes ready to sand and varnish.
It provides the teak strip flooring look but is only a veneer over maring mahoghany ply.
280.00 a 4 x 8 sheet. Glad I only needed a 1/4 sheet for the project and it looks fantastic. Get tons of compliments on the little old school touch added to a modern boat. I found it at a wood shop that specializes in boat building supplies.

. Only downfall was that they were slippery when they were wet. Like i said earlier, its not a race boat, or even a fast boat for that matter, its a cruiser with nice looks, they wont be wet from bangin on waves, so I sould be alright. What did you use to seal it, and how did you secure it? Did you screw it down? I was thinking of making it a tight fit and laying it in place with the only fasteners being those that secure the bolsters. I would like to be able to pull em out at the end of the season and refinish them in the off months. Thanks to everyone for your input. If theres anyone else out there with ideas, please share them. Thanks

I finnished the wood with 5 coats of verathane diamond finnish.
Mine is only one removable floor hatch so I epoxied the wood laminate to the original F/G hatch after stripping the carpet form it and scuffing it with 40 grit.

A buddy of mine is having his exterior done with this http://www.nuteak.com/materials.htm
It looks real nice and is completely maintenance free.
