I put a zz502 in my boat this winter and couldn't run my mechanical fuel pump so I bought aeromotive 140 gph electric fuel pump. The motor will fun fine but everyonce in a while I'll get a second of hesitation in the motor at idle and then it'll go back to running fine. Lately when I turn the key on I can here the pump whinning higher than usual and on the side of my regulater the gauge will say 2 pounds, I tap the pump and it bogs down and goes to 7 pounds then I can start it. Any idea's what may cause this? My pump is mounted right inside the firewall where the fuel line comes out, I don't think where it is mounted is the problem. Is there something in the factory tank that should be swapped out as far as lines or anything, also this is a dead head setup. Any ideas? thanks

on some tanks the suction or feed tube has a antisiphon valve installed, you most likely should remove that, also check you voltage at your pump and make sure you have good battery voltage when its running, a voltage drop will kill the pump over time, and make sure your pump is mounted as low as possible, you might also think about installing a return line on your system, i ran mine to the tank fuel fill lines, they make a kit where you cut the hose and install a metal sleeve with a fitting on it to connect your return line. I has to replace one of my aeromotive a1000 pumps a couple years ago for a pressure problem which took care of my issue

As H2X said, start with the fuel tank pickup, screen and anti- siphon fitting. You may want to send the pump and regulator to aeromotive and have them check it. One of their first questions will be, " Do you have a 100 micron filter before the pump".
After you know the problem, you may want to use their filter and a s/s ball valve before the filter. Especially, were you to remove the anti-siphon fitting. Though it may be considered a nuisance to shut/open the ball valve....It's kind of like pre-flighting an airplane and then securing it at day end.
Further, you may want talk to Weldon for their suggestions and compare their pump to your aeromotive for your application.
I hope you don't have a tank full of Ethanal sludge, the pump can't draw.

just thought I'd tell everybody what the problem was. I took the pump off and unscrewed the three bottom screw and was looking at the barrel piece that pressurizes the fuel to the motor. Cracked into 3 week old pump. Sending it to aeromotive.
