What size/brand line on your box anchor?

I went to order a box anchor from slide anchor today and the line they were talking about was $120 for 100ft at 3/8. I got the small anchor. What size line would you guys suggest and do you ahve any brand suggestions?

Wow, that is some pretty nice rope @ $1.20 a foot. I have some 1/2" nylon rope from the hardware on mine. Had it around for years and works great. No idea what I paid for it but it wasn't any where near that much. Overton's has 150 ft of 3/8" double braided line for $59.99 and 1/2" for 99.99. They also have 150 ft of 3/8" twisted Nylon line for $39.99, and 1/2" for $69.99. By the way, you will love the box anchor. I could get mine to set in the Mississippi with minimal line out while others struggled with their Danforth's

I totally agree, I have the big one on my 382 Fastech and love it. Labor day weekend I had 9 big go fast boats rafted to me at the lake with 20 mph winds and it didnt budge(had a small danforth on the stern). My only advice is tie a GOOD knot in the eye, I know several people that have lost theres. I have a bowline with a stop knot in mine. You will love not having to mess with trying to set it.

I use triple strand 3/8 anchor line. Bought it off ebay several years ago. 100' was about $30. I use a Fortess style anchor.

After dealing with 3 strand nylon anchor lines from Overton's, West Marine, etc. that always tangled up, I went to Top Knot this spring for their 100' 7/16" anchor line. By far the best anchor line I have owned. No more tangled line!

They told me not to use poyprolene line because it didn't sink or float or something....just what I read on www.slideanchor.com

Do you all use a reel for rope storage?

I use a "Rope Bag" like the mountain climbers use. They are nice rectangular bags that have a zipper from one end to the other. If you drap the rope in the bag when putting in away it will never get tangled and knoted. I have a quick disconnect on my anchor, remove the rope and throw the bag under the seat. I found them mail order for around 8 bucks.

Nope, I just wrap it up good around my arm. Never a problem with it tangling up.
