Default 454 Mag Timing

I have read the the initial timing for a 454 Mag Carb should be 8 degrees. Is that at 1500 RPM's? Is there a need to check it at more RPM's.
Thanks

That's at idle. 1000rpm max.Advance starts coming in at 1500 ish, so you need to stay under that for best results.

You might want to rev her up and make sure the advance is working properly, but it's usually not necessary.

Max advance should be about 32*
