Newbie questions - performance

Hey Guys,

I have been browsing, it seems there are some knowledgeable people here.

I just bought my first boat, 1984 "All Family" Charger 23' Open bow. There is a fresh Merc 350, this is now a complete toy, and I am recently divorced, so, I am ready to have toys again... I want to keep this for a few years, get acclimated to boating before I spend some cash on a new boat.

Anyway, how much can I do to this motor, and have the alpha one handle the extra power? This boat is heavy, speedo doesn't work yet, but, I do need more power and speed.. I assume this beast of a hull can handle quite a bit more.

Is money better spent on a big block, will the out drive fit? Can I put some decent upgrades on this, and make it sufficient for a few years?

Or, if you guys can point me to similair threads, other sites, etc...?

Thanks guys in advance,

Sean

Better off to keep it a year and sell it than to put a bunch of money into it that you will never get back upon resale.

Don't waste your money on trying to go faster...... The drive will not take it ..Griff is right keep it for a while and then dump it for a real barn burner!!

Jim

P.S. if you want any upgrades put it into beer cans and babes in the forward bunks!

Make it three in agreement - drive is the weak link. Sell it & get something with a BB & bravo drive.
