496 Seawater pump pulley swap
2008 496 HO and the seawater pump housing is scored. I see that the replacement pump does not come with the pulley. How is the pulley removed and installed on the new pump? If it is pressed on, do you have to disassemble the new pump to press it home without damage? How does Mercruiser recommend to remove and install?

Most power steering pump puller/installers will work.Just make sure the pulley is on the new shaft in the same spot.As most don't have stops and it will effect belt alingment.

I took mine up to my local marina and had them swap it. But all they used was a powersteering pully remover/installer. You can rent them from pretty much any chain auto parts store.

I haven't done this myself but I have heard of people taking a belt sander to the grooved areas on the pumps. Like I said, haven't ripped apart a pump on a 496 yet, so not sure if this is a crock of s!@t or not.
