Default Water pump on Alpha

Hi guys, would the in leg water pump on an Alpha one drive be sufficient to cool a heat exchanger or do you definately need a raw water pump to boost pressure in a closed circuit system?

I have ran a heat exch. for the past 8yrs. with an Alpha pump. It has no trouble maintaining temp of a 180*stat.
