Default 502 MPI starting

when I first start the engine for the day, the engine cranks over many times before it fires.. During the day it fires right off...... What causes this?? (I always turn the key to let the fuel pump turn on for a few seconds first..)

Shouldn't the fuel prime when you turn the key to the on position? Most fuel injection systems are set up this way so that you can turn the key to the on position.... let the system prime for a few seconds... then fire the motor up.
