Bulldogs are not 502 blocks...They are Tall Deck blocks
Extremely overbuilt and easy to get 600=650 reliable horses from. I changed to roller lifters from the old tech flat tappets

How much for the blowers?

fireboatpilot 08-26-2010 08:30 AM

Just keep what you have until it's time for a rebuild or something breaks. The thousands you will spend to make the 600hp will buy alot of fuel. Change the pullies like suggested so 89 fuel will work and start saving for those rebuilds-or- do like I did, sell the power you have now as a package and build 2 new engines instead of breaking apart what you have now and piecing something together when all your really saving is the cost of new blocks. The cash from selling your engines will go along way towards the new engines especially since it looks like yoour gonna be needing rotating assemblies, heads and valve train componants intakes and carbs. IMO

After taking the blowers off you will only wish you had them back !!! Not sure why you would have to keep playing with the set up ? Myself I would keep the blowers and sh!t can the wife . A lot cheaper in the long run. And yes I run pro chargers and have an ex wife.:drink:

Not to interupt, but Pro Chargers in a 31 ft boat? Sounds like fun!!! How fast? Black hawk drives?

The factory Merc 500 Bulldogs are 540ci and are tall deck blocks. They made 500hp in stock form and said 500 Bulldog on the flame arrestor.

It's not the hp you will miss , it will be the torque that is what sets you back in the seat when you roll them on at 3000 . You will need lot's of cubes to replace the blowers and get that torque number back. XR & Imco lowers , the P29's came with black hawk drives and them little motors. Never fast enough. :drink:

The Engines I have now have top notch everything done not that many hours ago. So I'm good there. Just couldn't justify getting new engines $$$$$. Just want to add to the package now and make them natural asp. As for the blowers throw some offers to me and we'll see. Thanks everyone for the advise. I really like this site with so many Knowledgable fellow boaters. I always said to my friends boaters are the most friendly people you will meet. Speed

hmm..They used to say "540 Bulldog" I guess they changed that along the way ? I thought maybe guys were confusing them with 500HP motors. The Merc 540s were a stout motor for sure
