Most Bajas that I’ve seen / driven / worked on tend to ride with most of the transom in the water. That would say that unless you’re really flying, you’ll be seeing water all the way across and all the way out to the chines. To be safe though, you could mount them directly above the lifting strakes as I did and as the picture you posted shows.
As for which position gives you the most mechanical advantage, it depends on how you look at it. The further apart you spread them, the wider your “stance” becomes and the wider that gets, the more lateral stability you’ll see. If you mount them all the way out at the chines though and that part of the bottom is out of the water at speed (like mine is), then you’re wasting your time. If you mount them closer together, you lose a bit of the stance thing, but your tabs will now act more directly as to knocking the bow down. I guess it depends on what you need more. As for the fat chicks, you’re on your own! Remember, you still have the option of mounting them parallel with the water (at rest) as opposed to parallel with the planning bottom. |

well on my boat, I am goin to mount them about where the stripped boat has them mounted. I cant mount them out any further cause it will hit my swim platform mounts, and after watching my boat run at WOT trimmed out, they would be absolutely pointless out there. Hell they will almost be pointless at where they are mounted at there, but I dont want them any closed to the outdrive..My boat runs very high in the water..

You ever get around to mounting your k-planes? Finally got mine on, been working on it this week.

I ended up using hard-lines on the inside for plumbing. Probably going to redo the stbd side, the port side came out a little cleaner as far as routing. Ignore the mess, still need to pick up the tools, rags, etc. I made the drill templates using two pieces of 3/4" plywood, used the k-plane plates as a guide and a trim bit on a routing table so they were exact. Worked pretty good.

I had a set of 380s on my 240 sport, before I bought the boat. They were removed before I bought the boat, and I have alot of chine right now, I have my outdrive raised 3 inches too. I am installing a set of the eddie marines this winter, the biggest set they make. I dont see a problem with going bigger. Just dont do the whole trip and stuff move when playing in the cruiser wakes...
Ill be up at the shootout on the 11th..any word on what boats are gunna be there?? |
figured I would post up placement of my tabs / pumps incase it is useful to someone else in the future. 1994 24' Baja Outlaw
