Default drive question

im looking at a 28 ft calibier...2010 new...it has a 496 ho...is it possable to have a alpha drive on it,online boat.so i have yet to see it in person.but they tell me it has an alpha..doesnt sound right to me.did nt think an alpha could handle the horse power of a 496

That surprises me - I didn't know you could put an alpha behind a big block package, but I am not the most knowledgeable person on this board.

Merc does not sell 496's with an Alpha. An Alpha can't handle the torque.

It seems to me that alot of salesmen just copy and paste ads from their old listings and then correct the info as needed. Could be that, or he just inadvertently typed the wrong name of the drive.

496/Alpha combos were never sent out from Merc. If it truly has that combo, the boat originally came with a small block and someone installed the 496 at a later date.
