Default Mercruiser 6.2 320hp or Scorpion 6.2 340hp??

Hi to everybody,
i need your advice...
Finally this winter i have to change the engines on my Magnum Marine 27 Starfire.I had 2x330 hp Mercruiser 454 7.4 and now i should decide between Mercruiser 6.2 (320 hp) or Mercruiser Scorpion 6.2 (340 hp).
I live in Rome and here a lot of sellers told me to buy Merc 320 hp(and i really don't understand why they don't tell me to put Merc. Scorpion 340 hp) , but i'd like to increase the power and for that reason i 'd like Merc Scorpion 340 hp,so i could put a new junction box an bring it to 360 hp then with CMI exhaust i could increase idle and power as well.
Could you tell me your opinion and what could be the best choice for my need?
Thank's.
Federico

Look at the 377 Scorpion or the 383 Scorpion....bigger bang for the buck...

yep fogg is rite,,383 scorp is the best bang for the buck..400 hp efi, they say for brabo 1 only but it can be adapted if you have trs?? volvo??,,alpha you will need to run low water pick's and the shift inturupt circuit so you can pull it out of gear..

FYI the 383 scorp is a reman engine, not new.

The 6.2 320 is now called the 377 Mag... that is new, designed for sterndrives.

The 6.2 340's are really for towsports... inboards. I haven't looked for differences between the Mag (designed for sterndrives) or the 340 HP towsports engines but I suspect they are the same... one not accounting for the HP loss of the sterndrive.

Back to the other engines... under the reman program they sell two 383's. one is a 383 Mag @ 350 HP, the other is the 383 scorpion @ 400 HP. The 383 Scorp comes with CMI exhaust... but is a lot more expensive than the 350 version.

The final version is the 377 scorpion, which they don't make for sterndrives anymore either...

One thing to check on all of these, if you are interested, is SmartCraft compatibility. The 377 Scorpions (350 HP) were not compatible but the 6.2 MPI / 377 Mags are. I am not sure which others are/are not exactly.

Default 377 320hp 6.2

Thank's a lot for your advices,at the end i think that i'll buy 2x377 320hp inboards with jollydrive surface drives. Then i'll put the exhaust (maybe CMI or i don't know....)and i'll modify the junction box to increase the power of 6 or 8% .
What do you think??

Why not rebuild what you have? Big Blocks are better.

Consider he is in Rome and the boat is a 1978 so the power could be as well..... I don't think the Pope does motorbuilding on the side, new crate motors may be a cheaper/better option.

People in the US rebuilt Italian engines. Whats the difference? You may have to import a rebuild kit, big deal.
