fram fuel filter for 525
looking around for the fuel filter for my 525 I have been amazed of the cost & no cross reference for it . I found the fram g3727 is the exact replacement size wise . its a 10 micron filter . Anyone know if the mercuriser is a 10, 50 or 100 micron filter ?
I think the filter is one in the same, the fram filter had a recall & so did the mercruiser . price on the fram is 10$ cheapest i have found the mercruiser is 35 all the way up to 65 |

I wouldn't even use Fram for my winter storage filter.
Go with the Wix. You can get them at Napa, and if you buy a handful they will knock the price down a few bucks. |
ac delco gf652f about 12 bucks at any ac delco or gm store

thanks for the quick responces >
I perfer wix filters also but they did not list a cross reference of the merc pn .. kinda suprised that the wix is a just 4 mircron . the fram has more than twice the filtration |
I buy by the case and split with a buddy. You can get the prices down to about $6-7. Check EBay.

But the Wix is the only one with the anti-drainback valve IIRC; preventing dry start up.

I think that you may have that backwards. I believe they mean it will filter down to 4 microns which is smaller than 10 microns.
Not trying to be a smart ass but you should not comment on what you dont know . It can be very misleading .. Read up on micron sizing ! you are 100% wrong .. :lolhit: |

If you're thinking of replacing with a cheap fram filter, do yourself a favor and just bypass the thing. If their fuel filters are anything like their oil filters, they're pure junk.
You're talking about saving $25 on a $25,000 motor... it's not worth it. |

I just cut open a Fram HP-4 racing filter. Looked like a well made filter to me. I will save this HP-4 and cut open a Wix and compare them. Doug

I cut the merc filter to inspect & the glue on the pleated seams had came apart , so it would have been getting to some extent unfilterd fuel . the pleats were not even overlapped they were butted together & glued
Sorry about my comment on the micron sizing , I was mislead ... |

Read up on micron sizing ! you are 100% wrong .. :lolhit: the way i gather it is the filter will trap down to a 4 size micron spec of dirt, with that being said fram will trap a 10 micton piece of dirt..4 is smaller then 10 so i would have to say wrong... read and look at the chart.. http://www.tpub.com/content/fc/14104/css/14104_153.htm Explain to us about micron sizing. http://www.filtercouncil.org/techdata/tsbs/89-5R3.pdf Hey drgn rydr......Thanks for schooling me. Am I still 100% wrong. Just trying to help and you jump on my sh#t. :lolhit: Besides...............I'm not the one talking about using a POS Fram filter in the first place:party-smiley-004: |

Which filter are you guys referring to? Little metal one on back of intake or the screw on fuel/water seperator?
|
I thought these were more of a fuel/water seperator than a fuel filter.

Fram HP series filters are ok. Basic fram filters are junk. But the original question was about fuel filters.

I never knew White Bloods Cells are so much larger than the Red ones....

High Performance engines need the proper balance of flow to filtration.
A racing engine in a race needs a full flow filter to trap "bowling balls". Four micron filters in this application will restrict oil flow and toast an engine. Yes...lots of "orange cans" on racing engines for this reason as we all know. An expensive Mercury engine deserves an oil filter that filters and flows well I think. K&N/WIX/NAPA-GOLD and of course the Mercury Racing all have what it takes and very importantly have enclosures that will not likely burst due to a poor shell or too much internal filter pressure...yes it happens..... and can ruin an engine. High Performance engines and microfiltration and potential oil starvation must at all costs be avoided. It will ruin your day! My .02 |
