Default Mercruiser 165 Water Flow

Just bought an 80's Bayliner to restore, the water pipe 5/8 from the drive runs to the front of the exhaust manifold then out of the back of manifold to the input at the front of the motor, thru the motor and back out the exhaust. The motor temp is around 50c,it is a flo thru system this is differant to the manual should I change it ?

If it works why mess with it.

I have seen some applications that run the water thru the exhaust first to warm it before it goes to the engine to keep a more stable water temp.

Hope that helps.
