572 how much power/tq
Ok I really do not know alot about the inside of the motors more than what I read. Got and good deal on a 572 merlinII 9.8 deck block with Scat crank and Scat h-beam rods.
Venolia pistons and Merlin grumpy jenkins heads.


I think that it has small heads and a big cam. I was told it should make good tq and 700 hp. I'm just not sure how many rpms it will turn with the small heads but I really do not know. What do you guys think, motor is going in a 28 Nordic Heat. I have know clue how many rmps it will turn before it's just done flowing??? I'm going to prop for 5500 to 5700???? I do not plan to dyno motor. What is your best guess??? Did I do ok or not for what I'm trying to push a big heavy v hull???

Seems like less cam would be better. That might be a good cam in the higher RPM, but with those heads and that cam, you might be leaving alot on the table around 5000-5400rpm.

Maybe have bob madera spec a cam for you. That setup with the right cam should be a torque monster that you wont have to spin to 6000rpm.

Id switch it out for a more mild hydraulic roller. You'd have a reliable big CI low rpm beast.

I am sure Eddie from young Performance will chime in here. He does alot of these big CI N/A setups, and he can steer you in a better direction.

That is a pretty healthy cam for the small heads. They are not going to work well together to make the most power it could. If it's torque you want (which that boat will need), then switch to a smaller hydraulic roller cam. That cam will make power to probably 6200-6300 if it had a good head. I'm really not sure exactly how much the heads will hold it back, but they will definitely hurt the power. The carb is quite a bit to small also. It really needs a Dom.
The biggest issue I see is that the block is at it's max bore at 4.625. You can not safely go any larger if you have a failure. You will have to install sleeves if it needs any repairs.
If you are only looking for 700 hp and big torque, then a cam in the low 240's int. and low 250's exh. will work fine. It will pull to about 5300-5400 and make well over 700 hp and 750 tq. Go a little larger and make 750 hp at about 5500-5700.

trying to get more info on heads

Just got of the phone with World Products and they told me that my heads are 345cc and not 300cc. But the intakes do not look that big to be 345s????? I guess that I'm not sure what I have for sure.
