496HO Alarm Problem Fixed
Posted a while back asking if anyone had ever experienced a two beep alarm at approximately 1 minute intervals. Got no responses. Well, it was finally diagnosed as a bad oil pressure sensor. The error code was forcing the engine into a 90% power mode, thus the alarm. A new sensor was installed on Friday and she ran alarm free yesterday just in time for the long weekend.
But I have a question for you guys since this is my first twin engine boat. The same engine is still running 100 rpm less. It has from day one (35 hours ago) even before the alarm issue. In cool dry air yesterday I got 4950 on the starboard engine and 4850 on the port. Is this normal and acceptable? Macklin |
Mine have been off by about 100rpm since day 1. I just attribute it to the tachs.

Is the slow engine the one with the power stearing pump. If it is that is usually the cause.
|
Yes, as a matter of fact this subject came up at the beach yesterday as a possible cause. I still do not fully understand why there is a need for a power steering pump and reservoir when the boat has full hydraulic steering.

100 RPM can easliy be the tachs or the props.
|
Yes, power steering pump, you may also notice the engine runs a little hotter than the other, mine does.

Re: 496HO Alarm Problem Fixed
Is it possible that water in fuel could cause the two beeps every minute. Both of my engines are beeping. They also will not idle.
