Done all of that. Swapped computers, Lift pump line is clear, Boost sensor fuel regulator vacuum hose is dry. Compression and leakdown is within 3 psi......... It has been at the best 2 dealers here and the top perf dealer in Fla. I am not naming names because these guys are doing what they can with what MERCURY RACING has givin them. Thanks for the input and the PM,s ....ALL I WANT IS A MOTOR THAT RUNS THANKS MERC RACING

Be a real "Shame?" if the boat was to get stolen one night......................
I agree with most posters, for the LONGEST time I would avoid "custom" builders for fear of getting ripped off by some "backyard Yokel" who didn't know what he was doing, AND for the peace of mind of knowing that if something went wrong with a "factory" motor, the OEM company would have the resources to make things right. Sadly, it seems that Mercury has fallen into the trap of most "monopolies" when it comes to customer relations, they dont care, because they dont HAVE to care. Its sad that a company that started out long ago as almost a "Mom and Pop" has gotten SO big it forgot it was customers that got them where they are. I hope things work out for you, but, I understand your frustration, I realize this is a LONG shot, but, have you tried contacting Merc's Public Relation's rep and explaining it to him? It couldn't hurt. I would also see if you could get the dealer [especially if its a big one] to pressure Merc on your behalf Good Luck! Michael |
Sorry to hear you are having so many problems with mercury racing, I have a friend that had a similar problem with a 575sci , dealer could'nt figure it out & merc said too bad only this one was under warranty. He ended up trading the boat off. Reminds me of an old saying, If you treat a customer right they MAY tell 1 or 2 people but if you screw them over they WILL TELL THE WORLD!!!! Good luck I wish I could help but I think everyone else already covered any thoughts I would have.

You're in California. Take it to Bob Teague. Not only is he a authorized Merc. repair facility, he also builds custom engines. Bob will fix it.

No worries here, had enough of the bean counters at Mercury running the show, Karl has definitely left the building (had 525 headers and other known problems). I would have loved to put twin 700's with 6 SSM's in the new boat, but I've decided to go with Ilmor 725's and Indy drives. Not priced thru the roof, great product, and great guys who care and are willing to work with you.

That is a real shame...You think your going with the best upgrade you can. Open check book and all...the best of the best...I have to say your 382 came out very nice.
I hope its something simple under the induction or valve covers....Good Luck. |
Check the mechanical fuel pump for leaking diaphragm
If the 700sci has the mechanical fuel pump as a primary lift pump on the block and the pump has a diaphragm leaking under pressure it can pump a lot of fuel into the crankcase via the fuel pumps rod that runs off the camshaft. Replace that pump or vacuum test it for a leak in the diaphragm. I've seen thsi happen on a lot of SBC's and BBC's that run a mechanical fuel pump like these Merc SCI engines use. Hope you find something simple and not to serious.
Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
On the 700 the lift pump is belt driven with the raw water pump. There is a clear hose for the connection to the crankcase. This hose has a dip in it. There has never been any evidence of gas. The regulator has a vacuum hose/boost sensor hose that is dry and clean. The fuel passes through the rear of the intake manifold, that has been pressure tested by two different shops. The injectors have been pulled twice and bench tested. The computers have been swapped and the issue remains with the same engine.....I'm still thinking a Pabst blue ribbon beer can laying on the chiller......

its the regulator,,, either the return line is pinched or clogged or the set psi is to high...change the regulator and set it at the right psi per merc spec,, does the fuel return line dump back into the fuel filter or the gas tank?
