Solid Motor Mount Setup?
 
I have my HP500's pulled out of the boat for the Winter for some work....we noticed when we pulled the engines out that there were no spring washers on the rear motor mounts. The front mounts are the offshore mounts while the rear is the typical bell housing to transom assembly mount with the two lag bolts, large od washer and spacer. The fiber washers are there but the spring washers were not there. The engines are 99's and the boat is a 03'. Should the spring washers be there or are they omitted for the solid motor mount setup?

Also if they need to be added will that throw the alignment off in the rear or does the spring washer not add to the overall height of the engine? I did a search and found this thread which kind of touches on it but it was not clear to me.

you need the springs. It compresses when you install the motor which allows just enough compression load on the rubber washer. The rubber washer acts as a small vibration isolator and it locks in your aliment at the rear when the front mount is set. Hope this helps.

you do not need the spring it will throw the engine aligment off at the rear of the engine and you will never get it lined back up. had this problem in my shop from a customer that brought me a basket case(engine in back of truck boat on trailer with lots of parts in boxes) they are not needed. Boat has been running since 99 with no coupler problems?

the part you are referring to is a double lockwasher .looks like a spring -newer boats dont use them .you can tell by cking the bottom side of the rubber mount -in bellhousing- it should have a series of fine grooves in it that will lock on the transom mount when tightened up .if you were to replace the rear rubber mounts even in an older boat they will give you the new style mount and will come w instructions to not use the double lockwasher .i change these all the time as i dont like dealing w the double lockwasher deal .the newer mount is made so it eliminates the lockwasher

The boat is a 2003 and the engines are 1999 and were transplanted into the boat this time last year by a dealer that does not know what they are doing as we have found out the hard way. We only ran them for 15 or so hours last year.

best thing is to check alignment when reinstalling and deal with it then to see which style you need.

Exactly.
The newer bell housings don't use them. Check the bottom of the bell housing. You will not only see the grooves, but the insert in the bell housing will protrude past the bottom of the surrounding part of the bell housing.
