Priming Engine with Oil
I have a rebult Mark IV 461 CI in my Nova with about 4 hours on it. I used it once early last year and winterized it in early october. I DO NOT want to pull the distributor to prime the engine with oil and was wondering if there was another way. I hate to just pull the plugs and shoot fogging oil in the cylinders and rely on that. Any ideas?
Thanks, Ted |

Thanks for the help Runnin! If it doesn't snow this weekend I may have to pull the cover off. All my buds are headed to LC to get ready for the fast approaching holiday and I don't want to be left out!!
have a great day! Ted |

I would use fogging oil instead of WD-40 as it lubricates better.

Keep the plugs out while it's cranking, it'll spin faster and less pressure on the bearings, easier on the starter.

I have a 598 going in this year that has not been fired in 3 years. Fogger has been sprayed in it 2 twice a year, no oil in the motor. Should I prime the same way or should I take the dist out and prime it? Engine only has 80hrs on it and dont want to trash the bearings!!

I usually prime by cranking with the coil off as well.
Once my guage is movin(usually less than 30 sec) I reconnect the coil, let the starter cool, and fire it up!!! :drink: |
