Default Oil T-stats,who's using aftermarket units

Looking into adding oil T-stat to my 502 with 250 BM, that has no measurable oil temp. Does anyone have any experiances with add on type oil t-stats, do they work, what brand do you like, ease of install? Eickert makes a very nice unit, are there any other comparable units available? Thanks in advance, Charles

I have just installed the perma cool oil-t with the big eddie marine cooler. I had the small merc. one on the motor before. Before oil pressure would slowly start droping. Start out at 80 cold & go down to 55 when hot. Since cooler oil & T-stat now starts at 80 & only drops to 70, even after hard running.

See the other post going on oil t-stat for pictures & comments.

CP Performance had a unit on their on-line catalog it is a combination Oil & Power steering Cooler with built in T-stat, good for up to 1000 HP and the complete unit is under $500. does anyone have any experience with that one? I believe it's made by Hardin.

I recently installed the Eickert ($$$) unit. I already had the big Eddie Marine oil/pwr steering cooler. I never saw oil temp unless I ran her really hard and then it might come up to 140 degrees. Now I run it and it comes up to maybe 220-230, perfect for getting rid of that ol' condensation from the oil It goes back down to about 140 on a slow cruise.

Mike, is that you? We'll have to hook up next weekend. I ordered the Eickert unit last week. what kind did Barry have? BTW congradulations on the news!

Meltdown 12, I have the same problem, runs just below 140 all the time. I like your results, did your water temp change any?

Yeah, it comes up a little more now, not much though. I was told don't really worry about the water temp on a blower motor (unless it's high of course ) The cool motor itself helps reduce the chance of detonation. The key is keeping the oil temp up just enough to burn off any resdual condensation in the oil.
