How much boost would you run??

509CI, Merlin Iron heads, 9:1 Static comp, superchiller, 8-71. Cam .237/.248 Hyd roller 112LSA .650 lift...

5,6,7,8 psi??? Pump gas. :coolcowboy:

Back4More 04-25-2011 11:10 AM

Dump the chillers and run 4-4.5

MILD THUNDER 04-25-2011 11:13 AM

Heads are on ARP studs. I believe they used a FelPro 1037 headgasket, no cometics...They were talking running 8psi, but seems too much with 9:1 and iron heads to me. Dont wanna see my buddy grenede anything. They will be going to the dyno, but i know dyno and boat results can differ quite a bit..

With the 8-71's on those 509's at that CR you not going to make much heat spinning them as slow as needed anyway. By leaving them out you'll idle tons better and lesson the chance of loading up the plugs.

So basically, the chillers offer no advantage unless say you are overdriving the blower alot? He planned to rig it where the chiller doesnt get any water flow at idle.

The 9:1 with iron heads kinda scares me when talking 8psi on pump gas. Also, would a cam with 114LSA been better considering the blower?

leave them chillers on MILD and plumbing them like you say no water till underway is correct and she'll idle fine :drink: talk to someone like Teague and try to tell him the chillers are doing nothing ...LOL

fixx

9.1 comp and 8 psi of boost  with 93 5 psi max..

Chillers save motors. Period.

Fuel puddling in the intake due to the chiller at idle is easy to rectify. Do not "pump" water thru the chiller, force feed only and for added idle quality, run a 4-AN feed from the rear corner of the intake manifold where it blocks off the water passage to the rear of the chiller. Warm water will flow reverse direction thru the chiller at idle helping fuel atomization until the force of water from the pick up once under way stops it. I do not have any fuel puddling issues what so ever.

ya, considering they are paid for and already installed, I think they will stay on for now. And they look cool!

I dont have much experiance with the chillers, as far as how much more you can push the envelope with them, vs not having them. I myself, without them, would run 4lbs max on that setup with the 9:1 and iron heads.

According to the BDS final compression chart, 9:1 static with 8psi =about 13.9 Final. They suggest no more than 12.4 on pump gas. Which would mean 4-5lbs of boost. Where the chiller factors in, I dont know. :drink:
