Default Sea Strainers , Brass, Bronze or SS ????

Several long term salty boat people strongly recommend only Brass or Bronze sea strainers, yet everyhting buit for go fast boats is SS . . .

What gives? Is it the pressure pulses in the intake water piping from high speed operation and flying over waves . .or is it the cost of fabrication?

For me form follows function, so the bling factor is BS.
