Default Any stereo/audio wizards out there...?

This is sort of boat related, the stereo is in my boat.....

The stereo stopped working last time out, basic Pioneer set up, head unit with a seperate 4 channel amp and four speakers, everything was working great last time out.

The head unit powers up but the amp does not, power at the amp but nothing coming out.....my question is: The blue wire with the tracer from the head unit is the "remote" line that goes to the amp to tell it to turn on right?, what sort of signal should come from this wire? Is there a way I can test that the head unit is sending a signal to the amp to power up...?

Hope this makes sense to somebody......

I put a ground and power to the amp and it does not power up, I assume some sort of signal/power has to go to the remote terminal on the amp...???

PS. All fuses and connections have been checked......thanks.

remote line is 12v, may also check fuse on main feed to amp.

Just a thought....most amps have a fuse (automotive looking one) that is built into the amp itself. It should be easy to see (Its on the outside)....did you check that ?

I had one before that did the same thing. It musta got shorted somewhere. I got sick of messing with it...so I went on Craigslist under "auto parts" (or you can try "electronics" ) and bought a nice one off some young kid that needed the money.

The remote wire should read around 12 volts. However, the amp should turn on with less voltage, say around 6 volts. To test if your remote lead is the issue, jump a good 12 volt source, such as the power wire going into the amp, over to the remote terminal on the amp. This should power the amp up if the remote wire was the issue.

I know you said you checked all fuses, but did you make sure you didn't blow a fuse on the amp itself?

Thanks gents....just what I needed, wasn't sure if I jumped the + on the amp with a full 12V that I would screw something....

I did check all fues, amp, deck, power in etc.....I also opened up the amp to see if there was an internal fuse.......I will try the jump and failing that, either a new amp or deck.......Craig's List her I come......

Thanks again....
