steering hub adapter??? Help
I have the old original tilt steering on my 78 spectra that I am restoring. I like the tilt however what type of adapter do I need to fit modern steering wheels? I just removed the long nut and bolt holding the original one on and there is a square, slightly tappered male post with a hole for the bolt.
I have a couple of steering wheels I purchased off the board.
One is round tapered key type which I would like to use and the other is a std 6 bolt pattern. Regardless is there an adapter for one or the other or both. If I recall the first one mentioned came off a Fountain. The old wheel simply forces me to intall my new seat bases back to far taking up way to much valuable space.
If I had to guess I would say the square shaft is roughly 5/8" and sticks out about 3/4" from the rest of the tilt/steering assm.
Thanks guys,
John

This what I need. Just want to stay as shallow or close to the dash as possible as the assm with the tilt already is out further than I prefer.

I was told they dont make an adapter for a square shaft. Had the same problem with my boat after I bought a new wheel before looking at the old stuff. I ended up puting in a new helm with the tapered key way shaft. I really didnt look to hard for an adapter so maybe the sales guy was full of crap and someone does make one

That's the classic Mercury Ride Guide setup.
