The small hose is used to keep warm water mixing with the cool water brought in by the seawater pump. That's a pricey hose for $50.

that makes sense, my motor rarely gets up to 140

don't see why you can't eliminate it..they did on the big blocks and the cooling systems are the same...

I've plugged a few of the small bypass holes before and never saw a difference.
I would get rid of the recirculating pump altogether
