525 Bouncing Tach?
#1
Had the boat out yesterday. Ran great all day,but on the way in,I slowly increased throttle/speed. Smooth as can be until 4200-4300 rpms on the starboard motor. Tach would jump around and not go past 4300.Slowed down to 4000 and problem went away.Brought it back up and the same thing happened, with the edition of the alarm sounding. We stayed around 3500 for the rest of the day with no problems.Got back to the dock and borrowed a buddy's scanner.I got about 4 codes. An overspeed code, which made no sense (never got over 4300),some steering code thats always there,a fuel level code(we had 3/4 tank),and a MAP sensor code.My question is,if the MAP sensor was bad wouldn't it make the motor run rough? Should I try the MAP anyways? I am on vacation this week and don't want to bring it to the mechanic and lose the rest of the week.I will just cruise at 3500 and have it looked at next week. BTW 382 Formula with 525's.Any help would be appreciated.

Map sensor, they can get moisture in them. You can take it off and blow into it and re-install that may get you by if thats the problem. Depending on the codes it threw you can get a overspeed code if you exceed 3500-4000rpm but the boat can still run fine. Be glad the boat has not went to gardian mode and don't get a auto map sensor, I was in a pinch and got one and it didn't work even though it cross referenced out to the same map sensor. I was dealing with those damm alarms and codes for 2 months on my 525.

Thanks for the responses guys.I am going to try the MAP sensor today.Over night aired one,and it should be in this morning. I know it isn't a tach wire, because it starts bouncing at 4200,and won't rev past 4200. I'll let you know the results.
