Default Nav light switch is hot

Hi - my first post!

I just picked up a 21' proline and replaced the old red/green nav lights. They work fine, but the switch is running pretty hot (as in temp) now. It just wasn't working before. I could have replaced the bulbs I suppose but the housings were all cracked and yellowed.

I'm guessing a hot switch is not normal - or is it?

Thanks

You have to check the wiring going to the light. If it is older and corroding it will increase the resitance and cause it to run hotter than normal.

What is hot? It will have some warmth to it when on for extended periods.

Thanks Jay - I'll check the wiring. Probably should replace it altogether at some point. The switch itself is physically hot to the touch. It's a bird's nest in there
