Default Flame Arrestor: Stock or K & N

Im currently running a K and N and feel like i should be running a little harder than what I am. my question i guess is does a k and n flow better than a stock flame arrestor from a 1987 260 horse 5.7 or no. i have a late model 350 now that is modded up but i feel like it has more it just cant get there and im wondering if the k and n is choking it down. im going to try running the stock one i still have and see if it changes anything but i would like a few suggestions, not looking to gain 1000 rpm but would like to pick up 200 or so if at all possible by messing with air flow. any help would be awesome

what you need is another 260 hp... unless its very small light boat, 260 hp isn't going to get a lot of performance... and a 350 that make only 260 hp isn't much of a build up. 300 should be a breeze and 340 would be a more in line..

I'm running a 350 with vortec heads, lt4 hot cam, roller rockers, performer rpm intake, 650 demon, and 10:1 cr. It's a little more than 260 horse, I'm trying to dial it in and I'm wondering if my k and n is hurting my airflow and was wondering if the stock flame arrestor FROM a 260 would flow better

Do a WFO run and note speed and rpm. Then remove the K and N and run nothing. Run the EXACT same run and note speed and rpm.

NOTE: Not responsible if your carb backfires and your boat catches fire.

There was a thread about it a little while back. Do a seach on it and dig it up. Some of the engine builders on the board chimed in with some actual numbers. The consensus seemed to be that it was worse than the stock arrestors, from what I remember.

Had twin 355's w/vortec heads, airgap intake, crane 272 cam, 650 dp, 10:1 and I picked up 300 rpm when I took the K&N off and put stock arrestor on.
