JL Audio 7.7
Looking into upgrading the stereo in my 25zx. Always have been a big fan of JL. Tell me about the 7.7 component speakers. I was thinking 4 of these guys should be pretty potent. 7.7...thats like having 4 8" subs or no? I am guessing running them off a head unit only is going to be a waste of time and that an amp is a must? I want some good bass...are these guys gonna make me happy or am i going to accompany them with a sub or two?
Also can anyone recommend a good head unit and amps. |
Installed 2 sets of 7.7 coaxiles in my cruiser. Running off a JL 300/4 amp. (Kicking around a set of 6.5's up higher in the arch and going to a 6 channel amp) Also put in a 10 sub, off a 250/1 amp, both also JL. I wouldn't bother putting any high quality speakers in without an amp. The 7.7's sound good w/o the sub if no room to add one. I'm using a JVC head unit with front and rear USB, ipod aux jacks, and blue tooth. All bases covered. :)

The 7.7 JLs will make you very happy, but to make it right you will still need a sub or two. I run 2 sets of 6.5 coaxial, and 1set of 7.7 on a 4 channel jl amp. I have 2 jl 10w3 on a mono jl amp. Sounds awesome.

JL is JL solid stuff! Love wet sounds amps!!! Have run lots of amps and boy I sure like them I play my stuff sick loud for hours with zero problems. All speakers must have a amp buddy!!! For head unit have had about every one. I love my new Kenwood!!!!! 2nd would be Alpine both are there top of the line marine head unit. Kenwood easier to use and love not having the flip down front and the usb right on the front of the deck.
Skydog. P.s. don't joke your self yes u need a sub. I run two JL 12" Ho boxes it hits man. But if room a big deal get two 10" |
My favorite subject. You'll love the 7.7s. Although they are very efficient, they'll handle a lot of power. I'd also recommend their 10" Infinite Baffle sub. I've got two of the FS110s but I've got the room for the enclosures. Most sport boats don't have the room and the IB subwoofers sound great anyway. I'm driving two pair of the 7.7 components with a M400/4 and the two subs with a 600/1. There's a lot of times at the beach or city docks that it's the only stereo on. Check out the M series amps. Very compact and draw less amperage because of the type of power supply. They are the marine version of the XD amps. BTW, using an Alpine 9886M head unit. I like the higher voltage of the pre amp outs and the number of preamp outs.

I recently added (6) JL Audio 7.7" and a single 10" sub to the cockpit in my boat. It rocks and the sound is crisp and clean. The sub is definitely needed. I used a single 6-channel 600W JL amp to run it all, but I plan to add another 200W amp for just the sub. For the head unit, I went with the Fusion MS-IP600 that docks an iPod internally. It's been great. Here's a link to some pics...

Nice job Plum Crazy. A M600/1 on that sub would be perfect.

I like subs...I put one in just about every vehicle I buy...so much I installed kicker 10 in my dump truck...
What model sub do I need if not using an enclosure? |
I have 7.7's and 6.5's and a 10" m series marine sub running off a 600x6 jl marine amp and it sounds great its all in a small area tho, if I had a bigger boat I would do two sets of 7.7 's and more power they will handle quite alot
