Twin spins...it might....however if it isn't....CHAA-Ching. I think people tend to forget there's roughly 3-4 gallons of water in the system when you start the process and running AF would be merely diluting the water (in a perfect world all areas would be about 50/50). In the real world, according to Murphy's laws...some areas would be closer to 100 pct and others closer to pure water (and Murphy was an optimist...). For those reasons I like to drain as much water as I can, run in the pink stuff to maximize dilution ratio, and then drain again so remainder in any little pocket(s) is is a pretty strong solution of AF and maximize area for expansion should Murphy win another one.
i have a '90 454 MAG, when i do mine i pull my block drains and exhaust hoses and waterpump hose. i then pull out my thermostat and start refilling everything through the T-stat housing and i can tell you mine takes all of 5 gallons+ before it was full at the top of the thermostat housing on mine but i have a 4 hose exhaust port system so maybe mine holds more than the typical setup. i then toss 2 gallons in a bucket and fire it up so that all my risers are filled with pink stuff and the 2 gallons being sucked in ensures my seawater pump got filled with AF. then drain it all again.
knowing how much it takes to refill mine i can be almost positive that just sucking in 5-6 gallons through the hose without draining first would not give my motor proper freeze protection here in NY
