When I bought HP fittings, they came with a additional fitting (mandrel) to use for installing them. You push the outside part of the fitting on to the hose. Put that in a vise. Then put the additional fitting inside the inner part of the fitting and turn it with a wrench/socket until it is fully seated in the outer part of the fitting.
I hope that make sense. BTW, I got my fitting from IMCO.

I wrapped the hose with electrical tape wher I was going to cut it. Used a 3" cut off wheel to cut the hose then champher the outside of the hose and remove the tape. Put the hose in the vise lightly and thread outside fitting bottoming out on the hose, then back off about 1/8 turn . I used a tappered punch coated with oil to open up the inside of the hose, Then put the hose fitting inthe vice and installed the inner fitting with some oil to help it start in the hose. Remember to flush and blow out after cutting and installing fittings.
