Default Oil Brands and weights??

For the last 15+ years I have always used Valavoline 20w-50 in my last three boats.

Stock Merc 502's and have never had an issue, never really 'burned' any oil just the typical half a quart used on the 502s every few tanks of gas.

I have one 5 gallon jug of it on the shelf and am having a hell of a time finding a matching jug for the other motor

So now I am wondering what others use, should I change my ways and just use a typical 10w-40.

Actually have no clue what the Merc Manual states besides to use theirs of course

You will consume less oil if you run a 20w50.

5 gallons should be more than plenty to change the oil in two 502's
