I've got a 30x60 pole barn with 12 feet ceiling height.

Search for Active Thunder Toy Box here on OSO.

You can debate the W X L forever. If you are going to pull the engines from a hoist, you need a min of 14' clear height.

from my experience.
go as big as you can, but only what you can afford.
you end needing alot of space.
for other things! in the future
sports cars motorcycles go karts etc
bigger is better.
best of luck n have fun or do not do it

Yes, or more. My gantry that I built rolls in just under my 14' door, and it just barely was able to clear a supercharged motor over the transom of my Mistress, with the hatch off, which is a fairly shallow hull. If you are working on deeper boat with blower motors, and you want to pull them complete, go 15' overhead at least, and pay attention to where you put light fixtures.

P.S. that's using a 6" I-beam a roller trolley and a 3-Ton chainhoist. You can probably shave a bit of headroom from what I have.

The real ticket is if you could integrate an x-y gantry crane into the structure of your shop during construction.

Probably shouldn't of mention dream house. We currently have a 20x 50 bay in the design, but I was considering shrinking it to 18 (0r 16) x 45. Trying to control costs.

Thanks

I would definately leave it where you have it. It has a lot of extra room now, but might not 8 years down the road.

If I move up in boat size now, it would cost me probably 8-10k to make my garage 8-10' longer. Its 40' deep now. It would have cost me about 3k to do it when I originally had the house built. I kick myself all the time for not doing it then.
