Default Gas tank reserve

As a safety measure for when you run out of gas a friend of mine recommended removing one of the gas pick up lines from the fuel tank on my dual engine boat and cutting 1/2 inch off it & reinstall it. Preferably not the line to the motor that has the power steering pump on it. He said that if you run out of gas one motor will stop but the other one will have enough gas to get you about one more mile further, hopefully to a gas pump. This sounds like a good idea to me. Anyone ever try this, hear about it, or come up with a reason why this wouldn't work. All comments welcome .

That is how jetskis have a reserve, one pick up is lower than the other.

Many dual engine boats are set up like that. Yours may already be that way.

My Formula is. The only problem with that is one engine uses more gas that two. 3000 rpm X 2 motors = 43 mph . 3000rpm X1 motor= bow in the air ...pushing water and 10 to 12 mph. You do the math...it ain't good.
And since 1 motor won't plane the boat. That one moter is using 1/2 the fuel but going less than 1/3 the speed ,which knocks the hell out of your already poor mileage.
