Why don't you bolt a 25lb weight plate out in the nose and test it with that before you go to all the trouble of tearing your rigging apart. That project costs $15 at Wal-mart, and if isn't enough, do 50 lb.
I had ballast in my last boat (26' Corsa), and I could definitely tell the difference between having one or two plates in. If you had enough power, you could get through it eventually, and it would settle down at a higher speed. In that case, extra weight in the nose would now be slowing you down, because you wouldn't be carrying the bow high enough. If you don't have the power to get there, then your CG is too far aft for your setup. Some of that may have been induced by the addition of the extension box; obviously I don't know the history on your boat. If this doesn't fix it, send me the bill for the weights... With straight-bottom boats, you get to optimize the setup really for only one running point. If you want to go fast, you need CG aft, and you will be dragging the tabs through the midrange. If you balance it for midrange cruising in comfort, it will knock speed off the top end. |
I have already had up to 80 pounds of sand stuffed up in the tip of the bow.
The boat was set up to race and raced by original owner. Only mager diffs. are 1.5" then 2" drive spacers, Aluminum swimm platform and hatch, seat and cabin cusions that I know of. My motor is about 500hp and runs 77-76 gps at 5250 rpm. labbed 28 B1 |
That's great speed for the power you have, and I have heard Gordo didn't like the box on his boat, doesn't get any closer to your boat than his, I may be interested in the box pm me a price if your interested in selling

I guess if the previous owner had it dialed in for a 950 hp motor, CG must be way aft, or something else is wrong, like a soft spot in the bottom.
How much power do you have now, and what kind of speeds can you run? |
Man if I had some extra $$$ I would love to try that on my boat. I would also need steering.....

if you would like to sell the box please call 732-372-1904.
