Default Engine Paint

What is the proper products to use for painting a new motor? I searched a few times for a step style guide but have yet to find something. The motor is coming to me bare and I plan on using a metal etching high temp primer and compatible paint base/clear. Will this work, or just flake off quickly? The paint I have is regular automotive paint. Thanks

I used metal prep and epoxy over metal. Dupont base/clear. Very durable and no problems after a few years. I paint and have done many boat and car engines this way.

Like PowerplayJ said make sure the block is clean...metal prep and metal prep again, epoxy, single stage, or base coat clearcoat, i use PPG, and motors that i have done for customer 6 years ago still look great......
