Assuming you were not using a water pump mounted mechanical fuel pump for gen 5 509's naturals over 500 hp what would be a good choice. I'm curious what kind of input I will see here. Starting from scratch. We don't any pumps, regs or hose ordered yet. Just pick ups and a place for a return if we chose. Boat will see severe duty.

I tell ya my opinion but you will get many!! I love the ease of a mechanical pump. Usually nothing to go wrong just change the oil in the sea pump every year! The electric pumps are nice as long as they are wired right using a Hobbs switch to turn them on and off. I like to use a 15 lb Hobbs switch if I have to plumb one so it will usually come on and supply fuel shortly after cranking the engine and it starts to make oil pressure. I also like to add a bipass switch so I can run the pump directly if its already been running but the bowl are empty from changing jets or something (Like most older Cigarettes had). Plus you should make sure that you mount the electric pump low enough to help aid in the pump pulling fuel from the tank. You want to make sure also that you run a real good fuel filter in front of the electric pump due to you dont want any crap getting into the small screen or bipass valve inside the pump! That will make for BIG problems a year or two down the road. Aeromotive is a nice choice for a pump and you will want to run a good regulator that easy to adjust and will hold a steady pressure. Braided stainless hose with pretty blue fitting?? THROW THEM AWAY!! Try to use eather a rubber push lock hose with brass or stainless fittings or bend them custom out of stainless pipe. Too many times I have seen a fitting fail or start to fail from salt water getting into the hose and fitting and start to grow and splits the fuel line or hose end. Pushloc fittings dont do this. Not to mention if your racing the boat its one less thing to go wrong and it looks ok on a nicely dressed engine! Remember, CHROME DONT GET YOU HOME, BUT IT LOOKS GOOD WHEN YOUR GETTING TOWED IN!!

I run mechanical fuel pumps. No wiring and nothing really to go wrong. I have had to many electrical fuel pumps fail but never a mech one.

My last rebuild, (Mark IV, block mount pump) we purposely eliminated the mechanical pumps as I feel the high volume pumps prematurely wear out the cam lobe. Eliminating another source of wear in the engine. Special push rods still did not help.

After talking with Will last night we decided, we are going to go with a big volume pump with a return with all brass push locks. As usual just looking for the best deal (new). Funny, in the beginning you just write a check and say screw it. Now toward the end we're starting to watch the nickel and dime factor but keeping with quality.

Cool to see you getting all this dOne. I have been to shop since the birth of your boat and just saw them painting the motors. Good looking boat.
