You know it is a raw deal for everybody. I like Dean. If I had never done business with him - I would like to consider him one of theonly people I really do like. He is a great guy. I really wish all this didn't happen.
Here is my build.
I'd love to believe he did a whle lot of anything just for me.
Where are those thousands he saved me?

mr schmidt, did mr gellner go over price of items on this list, and get your ok prior to doing the work ,as i stated in an earlier post, you get what you pay for,you got good parts, and paid what they sell for,it was ok then, but you complain now,he did not gouge you on the parts, you paid the going rate.he could have sold you, much better parts,at a much higher price, but se sold you what he felt you needed based upon his many years of knoledge based on his experiance.everything he sold you, according to your list, was good and what you needed for these builds.

[QUOTE=MILD THUNDER;Ive had numerous conversations in the past with Mr. Gellner about valve springs, engine parts, etc. I recall him recommending Morel Lifters for my build, Isky Tool Room Springs with about 145lbs on the seat....When I was at his shop last month, he had showed me how they will go thru a cylinder head and do a valve job. He was actually doing a set of brodix heads at that time, and the work was looking great. He was very specific on the valve seat work and why it is very important. Granted he's a little mom and Pop operation (literally), he's not building engines for lawnmowers there.

I guess you have more time in your life...and at this point you have only talked to MR. Gellner cause I dont hear you saying you paid money to him and had to wait on his bull**** timeline to get something back.
Here are the cam cards I was provided. Spring pressure was 135* on a hydraulic roller - not for sure they provide part #'s for pressure settings.
Amazing we are talking about some plain jane ****. Nothing fancy...exactly what i asked for.
Funny thing is Mr. Gellner asked for me to post a ref...same as you seem to be doing now...good luck. Maybe he'll save you all those thousands he claims to have saved me.
Funny little email while we were waiting for this to end...

Funny, I guess I would like to be shocked by your response, Dean, but now it feels perfectly consistent with the customer service we've received up to this point. I'm talking to you like you're stupid? I was just being honest about the impact this has had because I wasn't sure you were at all aware of it. And Carol's flippant response, which I wasn't sure wasn't complete intended to be demeaning, just made me feel like you just don't get it.
You're acting as though I'm stupid with your insistence that the timing for these rebuilds was to be expected. You are right that I don't have a clue as to what is involved, but you do, right? This is what you do for a living, so certainly when you saw the condition of the motors as you tore them down you should have been able to anticipate that other parts should have been ordered. Yet parts were still being ordered well after the motors had been broken down, so yes, there were delays waiting for the arrival of parts. And how long have they been ready for the dyno and just sitting on the floor in your shop? Is that normal also? To be expected? A cost savings for us? And is Yankey lying that there were promise dates that go back as far as last year? Yes, I'm sure he lied and we were preparing for getting the rigging completed just to keep Gill on his toes.
Screw you, Dean. Saying you won't tolerate my mouth. Really? Are you going to shut me up and put a little woman in her place, because that's sure what it sounds like. I don't have to know the business to know when your stories don't add up. A perfect example is right now, you say Gill can't come get them until Wednesday so now you'll wait to put them on the dyno while you run to address an oil leak in New Jersey. Why keep pushing them back until the last minute? What if something is identified you need to fix? Another excuse why the motors won't be done.
Go ahead and respond again with your anger, defensiveness and denials. I won't get caught up in the exchange. I wouldn't have responded to this in the first place, but I couldn't stand for your nastiness with the email and subsequent text to Yankey unaddressed.

Your speech like we are stupid is not going to fly with me. I understand you are not millionaires and how quickly yankey forgets all the discounts and money I have saved you guys because I do understand it takes money to do this. Yankey throughout the project had to upgrade many parts because you had JUNK when it came in. The first engine is done and tested. The second engine will be tested and complete by this coming friday. I have told him this multiple times. I am compiling a detail list of ALL the things I have done to HELP you out and save you thousands of dollars! Sorry you can't appreciate it so I will put it in black and white. Your accusations I will not toleate when you do not have a clue what is involved. I have my heart and soul in every project that I do and I will NOT have someone tell me how to do my job. You will be extremely pleased when it is together. The time table isn't all our fault due to change of orders applied by Yankey and part delays. Have yankey call me when he can. Also I have been in constant contact with Gil on when he can get engine one to start rigging. From what Yankey told me last week the guy doing the other work isn't finished either. I appreciate everything greatly and yes you guys are considered friends that's way I have tried in many ways to help you out.

Here's the question we still need to understand, Carol. If the motors are complete and dino'd, Yankey isn't coming up there; Gill will be doing the rigging and we've arranged transport to South Carolina. If they are not complete, Yankey does have to come up there to deal with finding someone else to finish them.
Therefore, we need to know today which plans to make and to make travel arrangements if he has to come up there. Speaking verbally has not gotten us very far, so in my opinion, I don't feel it is too much to ask for a commitment in writing for once on whether the motors will be finished on Wednesday or not.
I'm not sure if you don't understand why he is still up at 2:00 am fretting over this situation, or if you are trying to lighten his mood. Unlike some of your other customers, we don't have multiple boats, millions of dollars and a lifestyle of living large. Apparently it is the people who have more money who get better service, which is unspeakably sad and disappointing. I'd hope you'd appreciate that this was the biggest expenditure for us, outside of our home, and the lifestyle we'd hoped to have to enjoy it on the water. This process has taken that away from us for over a year. Do you get that?
Dean has prioritized other people over us time and again, including the jerk from New Jersey who couldn't speak worse of Dean, required legal action to get the money, rips Dean off every chance he gets, yet he drops everyone to go help respond to an oil leak! Yankey thought they were friends, defended Dean with all the delays, and even defended Dean on the websites where people were putting him down for his slowness and poor processes. Yankey truly liked Dean, and now is feeling it was all just a series of lies and betrayals. This is more than having to wait for 18 months for a motor rebuild that for others would have been 2 months (and Dean had originally commited to 4 months or less, by the way). He has also been lied to by a friend.
In closing, we need a commitment today, in writing, what to expect on Wednesday. Will the motors be complete and dino'd or will he have to come up to pick them up incomplete?
I'd appreciate your response.
Regards,
Janell

I see no reason to re-iterate at 2:07 a.m. the same thing you basically told me on the phone.
Discussion will be forthcoming in detail when we see you next week in person.

At this point the 19 months has been more than sufficient to complete them. I guess I just can’t understand why three weeks after the first one was supposedly dyno’d it is still not “ready”. I don’t understand why other people are being placed in front of ours. At the rate this is progressing it will be next summer before we see water. Based on the “next week” I have been hearing since March we are far from having anything to put in the boat. You understand that half the summer is already gone AGAIN. On many levels we just can’t afford for these to remain in this endless limbo. This situation is spilling over and negatively affecting other areas of our life now, and it needs to be resolved.
At this point the current situation is not working, and something needs to change. I understand you don’t do well with people breathing down your neck, yelling, and raising hell – so that is not going to happen. I need to know the exact day both motors will be done. If this is not next Wednesday (5/5/10) please don’t waste any more of my time or patience, I am going to have them picked up, in whatever state they are in, and have them finished elsewhere. I think this might be in everyone’s best interest at this point.
Sorry it has come to this, but this has truly become a real disappointment, and a really miserable experience that has sucked all enjoyment out the boat. I don’t know what it takes to motivate you to get these done, but obviously I don’t have what it takes. I just keep trying to figure out what it takes to be a good customer.
At this point there is no additional negotiating or discussing that needs to happen, you have been paid in full, so you can finish these and they will be picked up, or you can choose not to and they will be picked up

While I didnt have Dean build engines for me, I did buy some superchargers threw him. He told me they were in good condition, everything that was included, and sent me some pictures. He offered to crate them up and ship them, but I decided to go on a road trip with a buddy and just pick them up. I arrived at Deans shop, he gave me a tour, we talked engines for at least an hour, the superchargers were in better condition than i could have hoped for, and all was there parts wise and then some. Then, he took my buddy and I out for dinner and beers, and picked up the dinner tab. Works for me. Not to mention the hours we spent before hand just BS'n about engine setups on the phone, carb setups, and all sorts of things he offered to me, and didn't spend a dollar with him at that point. The guy truly loves what he does. All we talked about was boats, engines, and stuff like that over dinner. He could have easily taken my money, and told me he had stuff to do, and sent me on my way with the blowers.

Wish this could have ended differently. I never dreamed there was a problem...****ty leakdown led to the whole thing.
When you add the whole rollercoaster **** situation up...I don't have two more years to invest.

1. The day after I finally got it back, out of precaution changed oil and filter.
2. At 6 hrs before I put it into storage for the winter...6 hrs is because it took 23 months to get it back after dropping the motors off, and it showed up Sept. 17, 2010 (pulled to have motors out Oct. 11, 2008).
3. When I decided to do a few upgrades while fixing all the rigging issues, I added an oil pump out system, and guess what the oil had to be drained (and I certainly wasn't putting it back in) - I know it only had like 10 minutes to warm it up and go 150' to the ramp.
4. At 14 hrs - When I ran it and got the leak that required the intake to be removed, I changed it out of precaution and check the oil.
According to NAMBLA or sorry mike tkach it was due to his secret sourse and leaky headers.
