Intake screen for 575sci blower?

Stupid question (I ask a lot of these)

Looking for extra protection for my engine in the event of a supercharger failure. Things I think I already know

-The early 575sci super chargers are know for coming apart

-Chillers add some protection for these parts falling into the engine

-Many have swapped out the blowers or added chargers

-The chillers may cause complitcations with pooling, and of course complicate the set up

These engines are 2002 models with zero run time since new.

Does someone make a screen that goes in-between the blower and the intake?

I would like to run it stock for a while before chillers, just looking for some extra protection.

I do plan on removing the blowers, checking for drag and changing the 10 year old oil.

Thanks

just pull them off and have them rebuilt/checked...not worth chancing a 20k or more engine rebuild to rebuild the blowers for $1500.

The earlier blowers were actually the better style of the two though.

-If you don't mind...what's the story on a 02, with no run time either of the engines?

Call Ron Hayes @ The Blower Shop. And yes the older ones are much better.

new repo from a boat dealer, never titled or sold.

So the older blowers are actually better?

Rebuild or not I still want a screen. I remember seeing a screen gasket for a 6/71 years ago

I have an '02 with the W on the side and reservoirs front and rear.
Are these the better blowers?
I haven't had a failure but I did replace the bearings at 150 hours or so. I was also able to squeeze in an extra seal on the two rear seal/bearing areas. About $100 in parts for both blowers.
I'm getting ready to rebuild again and have looked into ceramic bearings.
What do you think of them?
I change the oil every 50 hours and it always looks good. I've been using the recommended Bravo HP gear oil.
What do you think about switching to Torco?

The B&M's have sealed ball bearings in the rear, I've heard
of more issues with them failing than problems with the Weiands.

The early run"W" which are the Weiand blowers had better bearings, cases and oiling reservoirs. Holley bought out Weiand and changed the blower to cheapen them up. Have 2003 575 SCI that had Holley style. Both locked up with 70 Hrs. Part of the problem is the boat came with a superchiller and small pulley. The Holley blowers can't handle the high RPM, blades locked together. Bought some Weiand versions, sent them to Blower shop and had the good parts put in. 140 Hrs. still going strong. But with the small pulley, I'm still walking a fine line at that blower RPM. I use Blower Shop oil. Not sure what it really is.

Not trying to be a smart azz but if a blower starts to come apart do you really think a piece of screen is going to stop the pieces ? I would think if it got that bad I would take the engines apart any way . Just my .02
