Kid

use a heat gun and a plastic wedge/shim and work your way around the exhaust tip and it will break loose...

that thing had to overheat to melt the flapper that bad...when were the impellers serviced last??

THE 288 KID 03-10-2012 04:39 PM

He sed the impellers were recent/yearly. Tom I wish you were closer so you could work on this thing and id pay you.

Since I have the rubber externals do I even need these things?

It's hitting something and won't go back up

:poopoo: That's the missing piece of piston they couldn't find during the teardown and rebuild process. No need to worry as it will help in keeping compression numbers up!

You don't need both an internal and external flap.

THE 288 KID 03-10-2012 05:09 PM

Cool I might just pull the internals and **** can them then

That's what I did. I just used a big screwdriver and pried the hinges open and pulled the flappers of the pin without removing my tips.

Come tear mine out then! I'll buy your gas and beer and lunch at the bar!

Anyone just run rubber flappers on 525's?

I do. So far no problems. The Merc manual does say that you need BOTH, internal and external. I got tired of repairing the internals.

I have these tips whick make it real easy to change the internal flappers. But, the metal frame kept breaking. So, I took them out. Also, they made an annoying rattling sound.

When we put it on the hose and fired it up they rattled horribly I shoulda new what it was LOL.

I'm just gonna pull the internals if you don't think ill have an issue. Thanks for the post/experience Dave m.
