Use what you have, but use the v6-14 module.

You will get about 18-19 degrees module advance, so you can set your initial timing at 12 or so.

Easier starts.

Sorry, not to offend waybomb, but not true.

I'm a big fan of the V6 module (V6-14) because of its short curve, but keep in mind, it's designed for 6 cyls and advances 14 degrees only when installed on a V6.

The V6-14 module starts advancing at 650 rpm and only provides 8-10 degrees of advance when mounted on a V8.

If using the V6 module, set your total timing first and let the initial timing fall where it may. I had my old blower motors set at 28 degrees, at 1000-1100 rpm idle the initial was 20-22 degrees.

They do work very well and are incredibly reliable and cheap.

v8 HP module starts @ 1500 and totals out @ 3000 It has a 20 advance .

Oops, yup, you are correct. I always set mytiming at full advance since my engines do not idle at 600, and the modules have an error of +/-2 degrees. I run 30.

I run a 509 with a procharger, use a MSD dist w/a digital 7 box, advance locked, box has a 20 deg start retard and triggers for water injection and dial rev limiter...way overkill but I had most of it...works great..
