why 540's and not 632's
 

Ive read alot on here and it seams most people build 540's and 572's whats the reason for it? and not to go to something like this:

A 540 is built using a low deck (9.800) block. A 572-632 is built using a tall deck (10.200) block. The vast majority of what I build are 598's.

Im really on the fence on what to build. being most short block kits are fairly close in price. I just figure why not go big if im spending the money now and not regret it down the road.

If you don't have existing parts to work with and are starting from scratch, go with the larger ci. It's not much more to build say a 598 over a 540.
How much power are you looking to make?

Well take into consideration power and what othe things will be needed. To make a 540 happy heads can be middle of the road darts etc. The bigger stuff gets into more expensive cnc style heads to get the most out of them. Plus you jump up to a dominator style carb and intake. A 632 can easily make 800hp and more torque with out much work. A standard bravo on a 272 would not last long. It can live but driving style would have to change plus that hull was never really intended for the speeds that will be achieved. But that's a whole other topic.

800. I got nothing for parts but tb ignition, holley 830 and a merlin low deck intake so really replacing those few things is not an issue. I all the accessories, sea pump bellhousing, starter etc. etc. I do have a m1 procharger but i figure ill ditch and sell it if i go to big cubes. I have an HP transom assembly and imco single ram full hydraulic steering. I know ill need a drive.
Im on a small lake though and i mean very small compared to what most people run on here. i never see waves more than maybe 2 feet and being in canada alot cooler water temps.
The motor in the picture i stripped to a long block and kept everything else. It was tired and buy the time i spent the money to stroke it. it just seemed buying a bigger inch short block made way more sense

I have a 581 that I just pulled to go bigger if interested. Haven't listed in swap yet. Was zz572 that we marinized. Just short block. Callie's crank. Manley rods. Good stuff.
Also have dart intake, carb. Pretty much everything except heads.
And the best part I will sell it all cheap.

I emailed you about youre carb and if i go tall deck id be taking youre carb and intake.

that 632 will make 800hp with no problem . sorry to say your standard bravo will would not last very long.

Not sure how much wiggle room you have on your exhaust but that's the only problem I can see . Adding .400 in deck height and most after market heads have the exhaust ports raised .300 can some times make it tricky to get the exhaust lined up . No replacement for displacement !!!!! In this case bigger is better . Just my .02
