Truck tires and load ratings???

I want to put some new tires on the wifes Tahoe, something with a heavier side wall for towing, what load rating should I get?

Cord 06-25-2002 04:08 PM

The capacities are listed on the side of the tire. Because these are a light truck tire, the numbers are derated 10% due to a greater chance of the tire being over loaded.

They put load range E's on most 3/4 ton trucks. Be ready for the ride. We have D's on our 2500HD and they do fine, but we went up in size so they carry the same amount. Most tire websites have the capacities listed.

What tires are you running on it now Dyno?

dyno 06-26-2002 08:13 AM

I'm not sure they are the originals....B.F Goodrich, way to soft for towing my rigg...should get a big truck like yours Fred but cant see spending the money for towing it only a couple times a year...

Sydwayz 06-26-2002 09:19 AM

I have the B.F. Goodrich All Terrain K/Os on my 1996 Tahoe. They are the BEST tires I have ever owned. I am right at the towing limit of my Tahoe, at 7000 pounds. I also invested in a set of Airbags for the rear, that I run all the time at 60psi, towing or not. These also REALLY helped the towing and handling characteristics of the truck.

Skater from this board owns Outlaw Motorsports in Culpepper, VA. OutlawMark works for him. They hooked me up with the bags; and can answer any of your questions a 540.829.0300.

I would think any tire in the size range you need would be fine for you Don,.... are you going to be around Great Lakes Marina this weekend?......Fred

Yea Fred I'll be around... I'm on vacation starting tomarrow until July 10th.....I rented a cottage in Muskegon on the Lake .I'll be there or at the marina most of the time I'm going home monday-wednesday next week Rachel has to work....I'll be digging into my milky oil issues and have a few other projects I need to get done around the house. I need a ride in the new whale....

Check www.tirerack.com for feedback on the tires they have listed. I bought my last set there. Stay away from E load ratings unless you really need it. Very harsh ride.
