Thanks guys I'm looking at a 27 fever with a 540 vs a 29 with twin 454's just wondering what you thought. And fuel wise I can't afford to spend 150 a wknd, 50-100 sounds a lot better. Thanks

that being said. I just sold a single 25 foot baja with a 454mag, and now have a 34 baja with twin 496 mags. 50 bucks does not make a weekend any more. 100 will, 150 you have a little left over. BUT man what a difference in boat.
I agree with this to. I have no idea where people say fuel is the cheapest of owning a boat. Its the most expensive. Which does not bother me a bit because I love having fun. For people like me, I do everything. There is not a mechanic one that touches my boat. For the person that knows zilch about there boat and complains of high prices, they need to sell it or continue to pay that mechanic. I see all these posts about stuff being 2-3K a repair. Bologna. I guess it just comes down to who does their own work and who doesn't. To me, if you own a boat, you need to know every inch of it no matter what.

I don't think either boat is going run on $50-100 a weekend. You need to get a nice 20 foot runabout with a small block. That might only use 30 gallons a weekend!

Endeavour32 is telling you the truth on fuel burn. I run a 502 my bud runs a 496HO 242Baja Islander. Both boats WOT we figure a gallon a minute. This is not perfect but close. Fuel is where my money goes every summer.

I'm not talking wot I'm talking about cruising 40-50 mph and just general use. If I run wot I know I'm gonna burn a lot of fuel. Just wanting to know average or typical use.

I have never had a boat with twins. My take on a 29foot boat with twin 454 running 50 is that 150 in fuel would lead to no more than an hour or so on plane. This forum has a lot of smart people with twins on big boats. They will come up with real world fuel burn times on around 37-40 gals of fuel.

I have owned a boat for 17 years now, both of them have been twin engine 30 footers and so far what I have read is about correct. At cruise RPM (3000-4000) your fuel burn is going to be about 1.0 to 1.5 MPG. Everyone I know except one has a single engine boat and I have driven all of them at one time or another and can tell you for certain that they all burn about half what I do IF driven at cruise rpm. Biggest difference is the speed at cruise RPM. My twin engine boat is normally faster at cruise speed than most of the single engine boats. As far as fuel burn for a weekend, it depends on how much you are going to drive it. Are you just going to cruise to the cove, beach or whatever and float all day, or are you going to drive it all day all weekend. I do both and will say that if we are just floating, $150 in fuel will do me for a weekend...However if I'm driving it all weekend (day trips, lake trips, Poker runs) I will burn thru a 150 gallon tank and then some. This is cruise speed burn, if I slam the sticks all the way forward, I can probably watch the fuel needle drop!! The last time I ever checked my fuel burn was on a weekend trip from my house to Cincinnati OH, approx 206 river miles traveled and approx 187 gallons of fuel used. Decided after that I didn't want to know anymore! In the world of twin engine boats 30-40 gallons is not going to get you very far at all. I hope this helps a little

They will be very close in overall fuel cosumption and mpg. If you are worried about spending an extra $50 in fuel, then you are in the wrong hobby. At best the boat will get 2mpg at cruise speeds and probably closer to 1.5mpg. $50 worth of fuel will get you about 20-25 miles of boating and that is without running hard at all.

the one place where a single engine really shines mpg-wise, is when you break one engine. twin boat gets REALLY bad mileage on one engine. single engine boat doesn't burn any fuel at all!!
