cam?
Anyone want to sugget a cam for this set-up?
I was looking for a cam recommendation:
540 cu in, 9:1 CR, Dart single plane (polished, gasket matched), EMI 4" stainless exhaust but will probably switch to a full header (rewarder or CMI), GM iron rect port heads 118 chamber 325cc runner, ported, 2.25 I 1.88 E

I have a engine that is simular to yours. With the crane 741 cam, I made 600hp @ 5400 and 620lb/ft. You will need a long tube header though. CMI elbow tops are OK, but the primary should be longer. Also consider having you heads ported. The exhaust port is where the most work is needed, but some improvements can be made with the intakes. Valenko can help you with this. A better alternative is to upgrade to a aftermarket aluminum head.

How was the response of your engine (bottom end, top end, what boat do you have it in?)
Do you have your jetting dialed in and where is a good starting point? (jets and power valves)
I had a Comp in before, dyno'd @ 600 hp @5700 rpm. Problem is the cam was supposed to peak @ 5500 but still had not seen max horsepower by 5700. No reason to spin it that hard and decrease the longevity of the engine...

The engine is still hanging from the engine stand, so I can't speak for any performance. The hull is new to me, so I won't be able to provide any comparative info either.
The jetting was set on the dyno, and I honestly don't know what it was set at. I do know that the secondary pv is plugged.

OK guys,
I finished up the engine...here's some pic's. What do you think? Should be around 600-625h (going in a 24 Baja Outlaw). Any suggestions on carb jetting and power valves. I went with Crane cam's 168741... got a great deal. I was follwing a thread on the Baja section that suggested using a Rev4 prop. Anyone with any experience with this brand?

It was faster than my labbed by Merc Bravo 1 24 pitch
I put a shortie on and then needed a larger dia. prop to keep slip down and had to go to a bravo
Remember each boat is different
a buddy of mine tried it on his 26 Donzi and lost speed compared to his stock 24 Bravo 1

razor, I think you will need more prop than is made in the Rev4. It only is made up to a 23" pitch. Also, I tried one on my 24 Outlaw with 425hp and spun it about 4800rpms. I did not like it either as it created way too much stern lift. You will probably need something close to 26" Bravo 1.

The revolution 4 is basically a bravo 1 that's been cut down in diameter. They were created for the people that wanted the stern lifting properties of the bravo, but couldn't spin the lowest pitch.

My gear ratio was 1.36 now is 1.34
My stock 23 pitch rev 4 spun like a labbed 24 bravo 1
The good things or different things of a Rev 4
They are 14 5/8 Bravo's are 15.125" when measured
They have less stern lift than a Bravo 1
They don't have a flared hub like a Bravo, more like a hydro
This is why it was so good on my boat. HTM's like bow lift because of the cabin weight
