power timing small block chevy
Dropping a small block chevy into a Jersey Speed Skiff, it needs to be power timed. Has anyone ever done this and if so what is the procedure. Also does anyone have a 12 degree carbuerator wedge for a Holley.

me i would just use a timing light:thankyouthankyou: |
It also helps to have a very accurate digital tach. My tach on my boat did not show the 50 r.p.m. gain made with slight adjustments.

power timing
cannot use a timing light, the engine goes in the boat backwards and the transmission is bolted on where the harmonic balancer would be.

If it were my boat, I'd find a way to mark TDC on something rotating like a flywheel. Timing by ear sounds like a good way to blow up a good engine.

On the Grand Prix Hydros we timed them off of the flywheel .
Use a piston stop to determine TDC. make a pointer out of sheet metal or a piece of heavy wire. If it has a 168 tooth flywheel each tooth is 2.14° 16 teeth = 34° If it has a 153 tooth flywheel each tooth is 2.35° 15 teeth =35° |
